I was jumping the gun and had incorrect information about the potential use of part of the Burial Ground for fruit trees and bushes - this is not definite yet, but it is a possibility which may happen. Apologies for the misinformation.

The food group have two definite projects in the pipeline, both involving land to grow food on. The church committee have agreed that part of the Burial Ground at the parish church could be planted with mixed fruit bushes and trees. And 2/3 of an acre up Yanley Lane (on the same field as the Chicken Collective) which could be used for veg growing.
A Local Food Grant application will go in in August, and there's a meeting on Tues 15 Sept at the Angel pub (pantry room) for people interested in get…

Hi My Name is Suzanna Miles and I live just outside Bath. My husband and I manufacture organic soap & skincare (paraben & sls free) and we endeavour to use recycled packaging as far as possible. We operate on renewable energy and run a multi fuel reclaimed Rayburn, affectionately known as Genghis in the winter for heating, cooking and hot water. We feed Genghis on sustainable wood, recycled wood briquettes and a bit of coal when it is really cold.
The aim of our business venture is to o…

I've been in touch with Transition Winscombe and Transition Wrington, and we're talking about arranging to meet up and share experiences, in January. I think it'll be good to establish a networking relationship with them, and also the Pill group.

I don't know about you but I tend to buy a book, read it with great enthusiasm, then consign it to the bookcase to collect dust for ever.
Would you like to borrow - The New Green Consumer Guide
- A Life Stripped bare
Both great ethical books. I'm sure I have more, but I think my son has nicked them!
Anyway, ring 393731 if you fancy a read.
What books do you have? I don't mean Mills and Boon or some airport novel, I mean appropriate books!!
Cheers, Mark

HELLO TRANSITION PEOPLE! Hope everyone has had a reasonable summer in spite of the rain!
I am writing a blurb for the leaflet/flyer to be given out at our first real public outing at the Flower Show-Saturday, Sept 6th.One small flyer could list the dates of meetings and film shows.Would it be good to make a November date(another film?) and December date (a Christmas/midwinter celebration of some kind?) so we could add more dates and people then have an Autumn/Winter Diary of Transition Events.
A…

The Transition Network run trainings for embryonic groups like ours, and there's going to be one in Forest of Dean (Sept 27/28), or Bath (Oct 4/5), or Taunton (November). Anyone interested in going along?

Did anyone see (or even better, did anyone record) last week's 2-part drama 'Burn Up' by Simon Beaufoy, writer of the Full Monty? There's a great article by Simon from the Mail on Sunday about his journey through horror and shock about what an educated oil man told him would be a 'global crash....somewhere between 2008 and 2010'. I recommend reading it at http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1036513/Even-oilmen-believe-planet-burning-says-Full-Monty-writer-terrifying-TV-drama.html (so…

I am hastily making a few posters ( based on the wording used in the short article sent to the LA magazine etc.)to advertise the meeting on 14th. Just felt we should try to attract more people even at short notice- is that ok?
I will put them up by Co-op and the park etc. Are we all telling likely people to come along on the 14th? If we all bring even one person it would be great..The Transition Hand Book talks a lot about getting existing networks included early on - so can we all have a go? Ph…

Angela Neale has forwarded me info about this, suggesting we might spearhead it in LA. The idea is to get as many people and groups to avoid all packaging etc that can't be recycled for a week. Should we get involved and at the same time raise our own profile?

Thought for the day - check out The Scythe shop at http://www.thescytheshop.co.uk/. The scythe is making a comeback in the UK, and the scythe shop is at South Petherton, Somerset! Read all about the wonders of building a relationship with your own scythe......
And then there's hand mowers - apparently the simplest sort is the reel mower. They're meant to be no more arduous than a pushalong petrol mower. One shop is at http://www.manualmowers.co.uk/?gclid=CNKN-5blrpQCFQEq1AoddCJVfQ.
Wouldn't it b…

At the film group meeting the other night we were thinking about what we might give people to take away with them, and thought a list of forthcoming activities & meetings, then we thought of having a day when people with things like solar panels or other interesting green stuff open their doors and we make a day of it. Other ideas: a talk by Ben & Emily's dad who's an alternative energy consultant, and another film showing. We agree to put this stuff on the agenda for the next meeting on…

The Transition Handbook has been ordered for the Library - it has arrived and I have borowed it.
Would we like a display in the Library?
They are willing for us to have one - we can borrow their screens - they will provide relevant books etc
Can we put "Library" on the agenda for the next meeting please?

The email that was sent out to everyone was a good idea for finding out when everyone was free but it seems kind of complicated. We could find that there are several versions of the same thing that are emailed back and forth, some including edits and some not.
Are there any other alternatives we could use? Does ning have a facility we could use for this, or could we consider google calendar or google documents? That way there would be just one version of the document/dates online that is always…

I asked my dad over the weekend to see if he knew where we might get a projector from to show the film. He said the company he works for (Sustain, based in Wrington) has one and we could probably use it sometime in September.
He also said he really wants to get involved with Transition LA but he's very busy at the moment. But said he could come in a few times for specific things (like giving a talk or something?).

Great to see everyone at the meeting. It does encourage me to know there are other positive people in OUR VILLAGE who will turn out on a very windy wild night to admire the swirly carpets of the British Legion, in the hope of a sustainable future !! By the way, the black silhouette is temporary and I will attempt to add a picture of a more human person soon. Let's all join this site and show who we are. Look forward to the next meeting Monday July 14th with that lovely floor-covering again, and…
